Inspiration is everywhere you look. In fact, if you look hard enough, you can find things that inspire your next real estate investment everywhere – even in your own neighborhood. For some seriously luxurious inspiration for your next big renovation, though, check out these amazing (and expensive!) New York City-area homes.

The Most Expensive Home in the US

Kevin Griffin, the founder of Citadel, set a record when he purchased a New York Penthouse at 220 Central Park South for $238 million. You read that right – Kevin Griffin paid $238 million for a penthouse suite due in part to its location and the luxury it offered. The best part is that Griffin won’t even live there full-time; he just wanted a place to stay while he was in town and the penthouse suite caught his eye.

Many of the most expensive homes in New York are, maybe not surprisingly, found in apartment buildings and multifamily dwellings. Robert Murdoch’s 7,600-square-foot penthouse apartment is found in downtown Manhattan and will cost about $72 million. However, at that price, you will get 360-degree views of the city – something that not many New York apartments can offer.

145-146 Central Park West #PH26C

This amazing apartment is located in the San Remo building, which is home to numerous celebrities. This particular dwelling is the penthouse suite as you may have imagined and the owner, Demi Moore, listed it for $75 million back in 2018. Thanks to its location in the top of the building’s tower, Central Park is just a walk to the window away – as is much of the rest of the city.

If luxury is the name of the game, this apartment on the city’s famed Upper East Side has all the right qualifications. Not only does it come with its own pool sauna, but you can also pass the hours away lounging against one of the incredibly soft Hermes leather walls. This is one of the most unique 15,000 square feet of living space in the city, and the price tag of $79.5 million reflects that. It was designed by William T. Georgis, who is widely regarded as one of the best architects and designers in the entire world.

12-16 East 62nd Street

Just seconds away from the previous luxury home in the list, this one truly takes the cake. Instead of just one incredibly well-designed and decorated unit, this one takes up most of the coveted block between the famed Fifth and Madison Avenues. In reality, it’s owned by a Brazilian billionaire who is not only secretive, but who also wanted to combine three townhouses into one huge family home. Thanks to its size, design, and location, this one is worth $120 million – and will likely be worth more with every passing year.

Though these homes may look more like they belong “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” than actually lived-in, the truth is that you can take a great deal of inspiration from these luxury suites and apartments. Things like square footage, amazing views, and unique high-end décor will always be in high demand, and you may be able to use this to your advantage in your next fix-and-flip project.
